When pairing Medicare Part A and VA benefits together, you can receive covered care at a non-VA medical facility. This is valuable because it gives veterans more choices when seeking medical care. Plus, enrolling in Medicare Part A ensures coverage for ailments not connected to military service.

Medicare Part B and VA Benefits

Also allows veterans to use non-VA doctors. In addition, Medicare Part B can help reduce out-of-pocket costs if VA benefits don’t cover some medical services. In case some VA benefits are lost or don’t cover everything needed, Medicare Part B is available instead of paying 100% of the medical expenses.

Medicare Part C and VA Benefits

Also called Medicare Advantage Plans, Medicare Part C, combines the benefits of both Medicare A + B and in most cases, Part D prescription drug coverage, into a single plan. Many plans cover additional health services for vision care, hearing and dental. Plus, Medicare Part C can help reduce out-of-pocket medical expense not covered by VA benefits.

It’s important to note that prescription drug coverage with the VA only covers those drugs filled at a VA pharmacy or facility. Medicare Part D is very helpful for veterans who don’t live near a VA Pharmacy and require more choices.

Once qualified for Medicare a veteran can use TRICARE benefits along with Medicare benefits to reduce out-of-pocket medical costs. The program also includes dental plans, prescription drug plans, and special programs for enrollees with certain medical conditions.
